Lady Colin Campbell
Oil on Canvas, 50 x 60cm, 2018
Lady Colin Campbell has been acknowledged on both sides of the Atlantic as one of the most stylish and elegant High Society women of her generation and is connected to all the Royal families of Europe. Born in Jamaica, in a prominent family, the British writer is known for her books about the British Royal family including biographies on Diana, Princess of Wales and Queen Elizabeth, the Queen mother. The sitting for the portrait took place at the magnificent 18th century Castle Goring, which is also the residence of Lady Colin or “Lady C” as she is fondly called. The ornate dressing area, the glamorous costume and the reference to her early years in Jamaica through the artefacts, has been carefully chosen by the artist to bring out the personality of his sitter on the canvas. Lady C has an exclusive range of finest handmade jewellery made for her and her family. For the portrait she chose to wear the parure of Burmese rubies and brilliant cut white diamonds that consists of the tiara, necklace, chandelier earrings, the bracelet and the ring. The portrait is displayed at the Castle Goring, Worthing in West sussex, England and forms a part of the Lady C’s exquisite wide collection of portraits and paintings by other famous artists.
