Selma Day

Oil on Canvas, 50 x 60 cm, 2018

About the Painting:

Selma Day is a business woman who owns a publishing company that produces several magazines including Mayfair Times. She has recently been honoured with a “highly commended” award at the WinTrade awards 2018 as an inspiring woman in business. As rightly described in one of the articles on her, Selma is a ‘Woman of The World’. She frequently travels for work and pleasure and has a rich knowledge of different places, art and culture. Born and brought up in UK, she comes from an Indian background and has been a journalist in central London for many years who knows London’s most prestigious postcodes at the back of her hand. Selma and the artist had a few brainstorming sessions to decided upon the look of the portrait to bring out the best of her personality in the painting. The artist was very keen to use characteristic elements ( e.g the greek statue, books) to showcase her ethnic heritage, her travel experience and business background After short listing a few places, the sitting finally took place in one of the suites of Brown’s Hotel in Mayfair. Selma carefully chose her jewellery and her dress custom-made, from her grandmother’s silk saree, a very thoughtful gesture showing her keen eye for detailing.
