The course will take place in the London Campus of the West Dean College in the heart of Bloomsbury.

Short courses are open to anyone aged 18 and over. The course fee covers tuition and materials where stated. You will need to bring all other items listed under the ‘Materials to bring’ section.

Paint outdoors in oil colours from life. Learn how to choose a subject and make a composition and finish a piece or two from various studies in the studio and outdoors.

There would be group and individual discussions and talks on subjects related to ‘en plein air’ painting.

Learn to simplify and paint Cityscapes in this two-day workshop with Tushar Sabale. The course will be taught in oils but you are welcome to use acrylics. The intention is to paint two cityscapes over the duration of the two days and we will cover composition, breaking and simplifying of a subject, colours, tonal values, capturing light, atmosphere and much more.

Demo Description

In this demo, I will be painting a Cityscape from a photo reference in an impressionist style. I will be discussing how to choose a subject, make a composition and simplify complicated shapes in a cityscape. Emphasis will also be on the use of light and shadows and capturing the mood and essence of the subject in the painting.
